PHOTORECEPTORS

Photoreceptors are specialized cells in the retina that convert light into electrical signals. There are two main types:

1. Rods

  • Function: Responsible for vision in low light conditions (scotopic vision) and peripheral vision.
  • Distribution: Highly concentrated in the peripheral retina.
  • Sensitivity: More sensitive to light than cones but do not detect color.

2. Cones

  • Function: Responsible for color vision and high-acuity vision in bright light conditions (photopic vision).
  • Distribution: Concentrated in the central retina, particularly in the fovea.
  • Types: There are three types of cones, each sensitive to different wavelengths of light:
    • S-cones (short-wavelength): Sensitive to blue light.
    • M-cones (medium-wavelength): Sensitive to green light.
    • L-cones (long-wavelength): Sensitive to red light.

Together, rods and cones enable us to perceive a wide range of light intensities and colors, contributing to our overall visual experience.

TEAR DUCT SURGERY

Tear duct surgery, also known as dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR), is a procedure to:

  1. Restore tear drainage: Creating a new pathway for tears to flow from the eye into the nasal cavity.
  2. Relieve blockages: Clearing blockages in the tear ducts.

The surgery can be performed:

  1. Externally: Through a small incision on the side of the nose.
  2. Endoscopically: Through the nose using a small camera and instruments.

Tear duct surgery can help alleviate symptoms such as:

  1. Excessive tearing
  2. Eye irritation
  3. Recurrent infections

OCULAR MYOSITIS

Ocular myositis is a rare inflammatory condition that affects the extraocular muscles, which control eye movement. Symptoms may include:

  1. Eye pain: Pain or discomfort in or around the eye.
  2. Diplopia (double vision): Difficulty moving eyes in sync.
  3. Limited eye movement: Restricted or abnormal eye movements.
  4. Swelling: Inflammation or swelling of the affected muscles.

Treatment typically involves:

  1. Corticosteroids: To reduce inflammation.
  2. Immunosuppressive medications: In some cases.

When you cannot sustain that single image, you push the pen back again till the double image fuses into one. Do it back and forth again and again.
  2. Motility exercise: here you move your eyes in different direction of gaze repeatedly, up/down/left/right.
  3. For the third exercise, hold a pen close to your nose. Look at tip of the pen, then look at an object far away and then look back at the tip of the pen again. Do this repeatedly.
