ANISOMETROPIA

This occurs when both eyes different degree of refractive Errors, with difference of up to 3:00D….

This condition is usually congenital. And it causes a sort varying retinal image sizes for both eyes and as a result the brain tend to suppress the weaker eye. Leading to amblyopia.

A rare type of anisometropia is antimetropia. Whereby one eye has myopia and the other has hyperopia.

DIPLOPIA or Double vision (causes, signs and symptoms, Treatment)

Diplopia occurs when an individual sees Double image of an object.

PATHOPHYSIOLOGY: Both the left and right eye sees objects differently and send their individual signals to the brain. Processing and fusion of the two images occur in the brain.

In cases of refractive Errors, strabismus, and most times, pathologies, both eyes send images of one object with different sizes to the brain, thereby making it difficult for the brain to fuse the images.

CAUSES:

  1. Strabismus
  2. Phoria
  3. Refractive Errors
  4. Anisometropia and antimetropia
  5. Anisekonia
  6. Pathologies

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS: visualizing two images of an object side by side, diagonally or vertically placed, dizziness

TREATMENT: treating the underlying cause resolves the condition.
