CLASSIFICATION OF LENSES ACCORDING TO REACTION TO UV LIGHT

They include:

A. WHITE LENSES: these lenses have no reaction whatsoever to uv rays. And They offer minimal protection
to radiations..

B. PHOTOCHROMIC LENSES: These lenses become shaded on exposure to UV rays. They transit back
again to their white inactive nature when they are withdrawn from the light source. They also reduce
the intensity of light that goes into the eyes of the user.

C. BLUE CUT LENSES: The types of lenses help block out harmful blue light from the sun, and digital
devices. In addition to the above property, it also possesses all the characteristics of photochromic
lenses.

TO RELIEVE YOURSELF FROM THE DISCOMFORTING SYMPTOMS OF COMPUTER VISION SYNDROME, DO THE FOLLOWING…..
  1. Adjust the height of your work chair to be compatible with your work desk.
  2. Use a very comfortable chair with a high and comfortable back rest.
  3. Ensure that your room lighting is bright and that there’s no interference from sunlight.
  4. Ensure to take short walks every 2 hours.
  5. After every 20minutes take a  break to stare at a distance of about 20feet for about 20secs.
  6. Apply artificial tears drop periodically to ensure continuous lubrication of the outer surface of the eye.
  7. Correct all refractive Errors if there’s any.
  8. Use photochromic or bluecut glasses when working.

With the advent of technology, it is only pertinent that everyone evolve with the tide.

Technology has gradually crept into and has taken over several sectors in the workforce today. This is a good thing because contrary to the popular opinion, that technology has come to replace humans in the workforce, technology is actually here to enhance and amplify human capabilities. With the rising level of synergistic co-existence between technology and humans, it is only safe to say that technology is here to stay

The vast integration of technology into every sector of human existence have brought about an increased screen time for a large number of the world population. This is because stuffs ranging from school assignments, writing examinations, applying for jobs, conducting interviews, purchasing groceries and  so on can be done digitally.

It’s even funny because the use of digital devices has no age restriction as kids and the elderly ones are not left out of this white magic called technology.

The continuous use of these gadgets however comes with its own baggage and one of them is the direct exposure of the eyes to high intensity blue light rays. Symptoms like headache, eye pain, Gritty and peppery sensation, lack of sleep, watery eyes, dizziness and so on have been associated with consistent Exposure to blue light.

Technology has come to stay, and not embracing it simply means kissing your relevance in the workforce goodbye. And ofcourse we can’t allow that to happen so scientists have found ways to trickle down the adverse effects this blue light.

Such measures includes:


1. Ensuring to stay hydrated by drinking enough water to keep your eyes and body hydrated.


2. Adjusting your devices to distances that suits your needs.


3. Using blue light blocking glasses like the blue-cut lens to block harmful blue light from penetrating your eyes.


4. Taking occasional rest from your screen to help your eyes rest and adjust.


5. Getting sufficient sleep daily to help your eyes recover from stress of the previous day.


6. For kids, parents should reduce the kid’s screen time.


Once you start feeling the slightest pain, see a doctor immediately.

Remember that the key to a healthy life is healthy eyes.

THE HIDDEN DANGER: How dust can harm your eyes.

Dust is a pollutant that can have a significant impact on your eye health.


Prolonged exposure to dusty environments can threaten the health of your eyes, cause discomfort and irritation in the eyes.

Dust is a dry powder consisting of tiny particles of waste matter lying on the ground or carried in the air.

These tiny particles are easily airborne and can  get into the eyes, causing irritation in the eyes.

Dust can pose a significant threat to eye health, causing conditions such as

•dry eyes
•conjunctivitis
•blepharitis.

Prevention is key
You can prevent dust from entering your eyes by putting on a protective glasses when working or walking in a dusty environment

What to do when dust enters your eyes?

• Get a bow of clean water
• submerge your eyes inside it
• wash your face with clean water.
